Have you ever heard of a water flosser before? Although they may seem highly familiar when you’re in a dentist office, they have in recent years become more prevalent in at-home use. Water flossers can add an additional layer to your oral health care and assist with interdental cleaning. If you’re not happy with your threaded floss, consider switching to a water flosser.

If you are looking for an alternative interdental cleaner to accurately clean between your teeth, a water flosser is a good choice. Water flossers do not use threaded floss but instead focus on a beam of water that is sprayed directly onto your teeth. They are shown to be effective for washing away plaque buildup and can even help in the prevention of gum disease.

Water flossers are noted for their ease-of-use and are extremely beneficial for individuals who have muscle disorders or are beginning to get older. Water flossers are also highly recommended for individuals who have had previous oral enhancements such as dental bridges, dentures, dental crowns, and orthodontic aligners that may get in the way of traditional dental floss. Water flossers can circumvent these issues by spraying concentrated water where needed.

Be sure to make time in your life to visit your dentist at Royse City Dental Care for oral hygiene enhancement, and if necessary, to schedule an appointment with Dr. Edmon R. Hutchison for a thorough exam of your oral health. You can get ahold of our dentist office in Royse City, Texas, by calling us at 972-636-2417.

Do you require a tooth restoration procedure such as dental implants, but are unsure if you want to go through with the treatment necessary to have them? Despite the fact that implants do require surgery because they are installed directly into your jawbone, the end product will be worth the investment.

Focus your oral health care on dental implants. Save your smile with dental implants and these important facts:

– Dental implants can be modified during the creation phase and can mimic the natural look of your teeth.

– Missing teeth should be filled in because otherwise, they can cause your jawbone to weaken and deteriorate over time.

– Dental implants repair the gaps left behind by lost or missing teeth for a full smile and strong dental profile.

– By not filling in missing areas in your mouth where missing teeth once stood, it can be dangerous for your oral health and can even destabilize your gums, causing nearby teeth to slide out of position.

– Dental implants are bound directly to your jawbone for a lasting hold that can withstand tough or hard foods.

– A full smile can make you look younger and help to improve your self-esteem.

If you think your dental implants could use a little extra work and you would like to have a professional exam from our team at Royse City Dental Care, simply book an appointment with Dr. Edmon R. Hutchison and the rest of our team at our dentist office in Royse City, Texas, by calling us at 972-636-2417. We will get you back to smiling once more!

At Royse City Dental Care, our skilled dentists, Dr. Hutchison, Dr. Gabrielsen, and Dr. Craig are happy to be able to offer porcelain and resin dental veneers for our patients in Royse City, Texas, and the surrounding areas. Dental veneers are a quick, pleasing and safe fix for front teeth that are less attractive than you would like them to be. Veneers are often used as a makeover, having the ability to change your appearance dramatically in a relatively short period of time.

Our veneers are ultra-thin, semi-translucent shells which bond to your teeth. They are long-lasting, resistant to staining, appear natural, and are typically made of porcelain or composite resin. To place a veneer, our dentist will need to remove a very thin layer of the front of the tooth so that porcelain is able to bond to the tooth (don’t worry, it doesn’t make the tooth thicker). Our veneers will cover the stains on your tooth, fill in gaps between teeth that are too widely spaced, make a short tooth longer, straighten crooked teeth, and make your smile more aesthetically pleasing.

Are your teeth healthy, and your bite normal? If so, you are the perfect candidate for dental veneers. If you are looking for a natural looking way to create a uniform, whiter, and radiant smile, veneers are an excellent option for you. And if you are seeking to restore worn teeth, revitalize an older crown or bridge, our dental veneers can make this happen.

Dr. Hutchison, Dr. Gabrielsen, and Dr. Craig and our caring staff in Royse City, Texas, are ready to brighten your smile if you are ready to make a change. For more information, or to schedule a visit with our team, we invite you to give us a call at 972-636-2417 today, and let us help you improve the appearance of your smile.

As you may know, a dental implant is a treatment designed to replace a lost tooth—but do you ever wonder if you’re a good candidate? If you have, there are a few things you should know.

Dental implants are designed to look and feel like a natural tooth. Sadly, if you’re missing a tooth you could have a hard time eating, chewing, or speaking. Fortunately, you can overcome these issues with an implant. Also, the color and look of your teeth will be taken into consideration so your implant can made to match your smile.

Another major advantage of implants is their durability. You see, most restorations will last at least five years before they need to be replaced. However, with proper care, dental implants can last for more than 25 years. In fact, many patients who decide on implants never have to replace them.

If you would like to learn more about implants, we invite you to visit us. We will gladly inspect the health of your mouth and gums to see if you’re a good candidate. If you aren’t a good candidate for implants, we’ll be happy to recommend a different restoration.

If you have more questions about dental implants, or are simply interested in scheduling an appointment with Dr. Edmon R. Hutchison, please feel free to give Royse City Dental Care a call at 972-636-2417. We’ll gladly answer any questions you may have. We look forward to hearing from you.

Do you have toothaches often? Does one tooth seem to hurt frequently? Do you know why that may be or what you can do to prevent toothaches?

Did you know that if you don’t brush your teeth and floss every day you could be putting your smile at greater risk? In fact, most toothaches are caused by tooth decay—which can be prevented by practicing sound oral hygiene. As you probably know, if you do not brush and floss, a cavity can forms. What you may not know is that if a cavity is not filled, it can spread until it reaches your nerves and roots. If this happens, your tooth will probably ache and be vulnerable to temperatures.

Similarly, your toothache could be cause by a fracture or a crack in your teeth or from broken or missing teeth. Again, if your crack is deep enough, your roots and nerves will be exposed. Conversely, if your fracture doesn’t reach your nerves, you may not experience any ill-effects.

However, if you don’t notice anything wrong with your smile but have a toothache, you should still visit your dentist—even if you only experience pain when you bite down. You may even have Cracked Tooth Syndrome, which is essentially a small crack that is virtually impossible to detect. In fact, even a dentist with an X-ray could have a hard time identifying the fracture.

Fortunately, your dentist can help, regardless of the reason for your toothache. Furthermore, your dentist will be able to treat your toothache with a natural-looking solution.

If you would like to learn more, please feel free to contact us soon. We are excited to hear from you.

Are you interested in brightening your smile? If so, you aren’t alone. In fact, Americans spend more than $1.4 billion dollars a year for at-home whitening kits. To make matters even more interesting, this massive number does not include professional whitening. Before you add your money to the mix, we have a questions for you: is professional whitening with it?

Would you be surprised to learn that as a rule of thumb, professional whitening is the most effective option? In fact, professional whitening is better in virtually every way.

For example, going to a dentist to brighten your smile may actually be safer. Please don’t misunderstand, gel and strips are relatively safe, but there are a few factors to consider. The gel itself is safe enough, but if it is overused, you could damage your enamel. If this happens, your teeth may be more susceptible to decay. Similarly, if you have existing dental conditions, bleaching your teeth could potentially aggravate your condition. Luckily, a dentist is able to safely care for your smile.

Whitening from home tends to lead to over-use, which can actually damage your enamel (the outer layer of your teeth). Similarly, if you have a dental condition—especially if you don’t know about it—bleaching your teeth could cause even more damage. Your dentist will ensure that neither of these complications arise.

Another benefit of having a dentist whiten your smile is the custom tray for you. Most whitening kits will come with a tray, but they are created to fit any smile. This can lead to ineffective and uneven whitening. Conversely, a dentist will be create a custom whitening agent that will work well for your smile, taking into account your previous dental work and your goals. A dentist will also be better able to protect your gums, which could become irritated when they come in contact with over-the-counter whiteners, and your treatment will be much faster.

If you would like more information on in-office or at-home whitenings, please feel free to contact us soon. We are eager to hear from you.

Flossing is an important and vital technique required if you wish to have a healthy and clean smile. Many people avoid flossing their teeth because they don’t quite understand the process involved, and if you are one of those people, we are happy to help you learn all about flossing with this Q&A:

Question: How do I floss?
Answer: Start with 18 inches of floss and wrap most of the floss around each pointer finger. Leave about an inch or two available between your two fingers. Then, use your thumbs and index fingers and slide the floss between your teeth, gently moving it up and down along the sides of your teeth. Next, gently curve the floss around the base of each tooth and move it back and forth. Make sure you do so beneath the gumline but be gentle while you work under and around the gums. Repeat this process between each tooth and remember to use a new section of floss as you proceed from tooth to tooth.

Question: Why is flossing important?
Answer: Flossing is very important because it helps deeply clean your smile and it removes the plaque from your teeth, which essentially saves your smile from gum disease and tooth loss.

Question: What can I use to floss?
Answer: There are many options to consider when flossing. Dental floss, dental picks, pre-threaded flossers, small brushes that successfully clean between teeth, water flossers, or wooden plaque removers are all great choices. There are two common types of floss, which are nylon and PTFE. Nylon floss is available waxed and unwaxed and it is known to come in a variety of flavors. Because the floss is made of nylon, it tends to tear or shred while you floss. PTFE is a more expensive type of floss that slides easily between your teeth without shredding.

Question: What time should I floss?
Answer: As long as you floss at least once a day, it does not matter what time you floss. Many people like to floss right before they go to bed because they like to sleep with a clean mouth, but your preference is all that matters. If you want to floss after lunch or before breakfast, go right ahead!

To learn more about flossing and deeply cleaning your smile, call our office today. We are here to help you reach your smile goals, and we are happy to do so by teaching you all about flossing!
