Furthermore, if you suffer from routine redness or tenderness with your gums or you notice bad breath that continues to occur even after it has been treated, it could be a sign of gingivitis.

Other instances which could be linked to risk factors associated with gingivitis include unhealthy habits such as smoking or chewing tobacco, a pregnancy, genetic predispositions, diabetes, medications you are taking or even poor oral hygiene.

When you play an instrument, beautiful notes, sounds, and songs are created. Little did you know, your teeth and gums can be in danger at the same time. This is only if you’re not careful. So, to help you keep your smile and oral health in tip-top shape when you play an instrument, our dentists, Drs. Hutchison, Gabrielsen, and Craig, have some tips for you.

First, clean your instrument. If you don’t clean your instrument regularly, it could harbor bacteria and even mold. When you use it, this bacteria and mold could make you sick. So, make sure to clean your instrument thoroughly and regularly. If you need help doing so, you can research it online. There are many resources available to you!

Second, protect your smile. Some instruments involve putting a lot of pressure on your teeth and lips. This can cause damage if you’re not careful. The best thing you can do is wear a soft acrylic mouthguard when you play. This appliance can keep your smile out of harm’s way. Please talk to your dentists if you need further details about this mouthguard.

To learn more about how to protect your smile when you play an instrument in Royse City, Texas, please contact Royse City Dental Care at 972-636-2417 and talk to a member of our dental team. We are happy to help you in any way we can, even if it’s just by answering your questions!

Do you get confused and overwhelmed when using your water flosser? If so, don’t worry—Dr. Edmon R. Hutchison and our dental team are here to help you. With our tips and information, you’ll be able to use this handy and beneficial tool to clean your smile and prevent dental issues like tooth decay and gum disease.

To begin, fill the flosser’s tank with water—the temperature of the water doesn’t matter too much, but many prefer to use lukewarm water, especially if they have sensitive teeth and gums. Then, put the tank on the base and secure the lid on top. Next, choose the specific cleaning tip you would like to use to clean the crevices of your smile and then click it firmly on the top of the wand. Then, choose a comfortable pressure level for the flosser to use to clean your teeth.

When washing your smile, lean over the sink and put the tip of the tool in your mouth. To keep the water from splashing, wrap your lips around the wand. Then, turn the unit on.

The tool will begin spraying water at this point. Start by cleaning the back teeth. While doing so, hold the flosser just above the gumline at a 90-degree angle. Use this technique to clean between each tooth in your mouth. When you are done washing your smile, turn the flosser off and take the tip off the wand. You can remove the tip by pushing the eject button.

Now that you know how to use a water flosser in Royse City, Texas, your smile will be clean and healthy! However, please don’t forget to brush your teeth every morning and every night like the American Dental Association recommends. For more information and details about water flossers and how to use them, please call Royse City Dental Care at 972-636-2417. We look forward to helping you!

At Royse City Dental Care, our skilled dentists, Dr. Hutchison, Dr. Gabrielsen, and Dr. Craig are happy to be able to offer porcelain and resin dental veneers for our patients in Royse City, Texas, and the surrounding areas. Dental veneers are a quick, pleasing and safe fix for front teeth that are less attractive than you would like them to be. Veneers are often used as a makeover, having the ability to change your appearance dramatically in a relatively short period of time.

Our veneers are ultra-thin, semi-translucent shells which bond to your teeth. They are long-lasting, resistant to staining, appear natural, and are typically made of porcelain or composite resin. To place a veneer, our dentist will need to remove a very thin layer of the front of the tooth so that porcelain is able to bond to the tooth (don’t worry, it doesn’t make the tooth thicker). Our veneers will cover the stains on your tooth, fill in gaps between teeth that are too widely spaced, make a short tooth longer, straighten crooked teeth, and make your smile more aesthetically pleasing.

Are your teeth healthy, and your bite normal? If so, you are the perfect candidate for dental veneers. If you are looking for a natural looking way to create a uniform, whiter, and radiant smile, veneers are an excellent option for you. And if you are seeking to restore worn teeth, revitalize an older crown or bridge, our dental veneers can make this happen.

Dr. Hutchison, Dr. Gabrielsen, and Dr. Craig and our caring staff in Royse City, Texas, are ready to brighten your smile if you are ready to make a change. For more information, or to schedule a visit with our team, we invite you to give us a call at 972-636-2417 today, and let us help you improve the appearance of your smile.

Gum disease happens when the gum tissue surrounding your pearly whites pull back from the tooth and exposing the tooth and tooth roots. As this occurs, gaps begin to form between the teeth and the gum line, allowing the buildup of harmful plaque-causing bacteria in these “pockets”. As this plaque hardens, it can cause long-term problems including tooth loss.

How does this happen?
No. 1 Gum disease (or periodontitis) can result from improper brushing and daily flossing.
No. 2 Gum tissue can be affected by nighttime grinding and clenching of teeth as it wears down the enamel.
No. 3 An injury to the mouth can cause gum tissue to recede from the tooth.
No. 4 You may be at higher risk for gum disease if one or both of your parents have receding gums.
No. 6 Brushing your teeth harshly can wear down tooth enamel and gum tissue.
No. 7 If your bite is misaligned (it doesn’t match up), the constant pressure on individual teeth can create gum recession.

4 Steps to Prevent Gum Disease:
No. 1 Use a soft-bristled tooth brush and brush gently but thoroughly. Don’t forget to floss!
No. 2 Use an antimicrobial toothpaste and mouth rinse to reduce the amount of harmful in the mouth.
No. 3 Wearing a night guard can help to prevent clenching and grinding of your pearly whites while you sleep.
No 4 Six month dental cleanings will remove calculus to prevent periodontitis.

You don’t have to let gum disease keep your smile at bay. If you think you are experiencing gum disease, see one of our dentists for an evaluation and begin any necessary treatment. Untreated gum disease can eventually result in tooth loss. We invite you to call our Royse City Dental Care staff at 972-636-2417 today!
