If you ever wonder why you should brush your teeth every morning and night for two minutes each time, then you have come to the right blog. Today, our dentistss, Drs. Hutchison, Gabrielsen, and Craig, would like to discuss the benefits of brushing, which are:

-Brushing helps you prevent tooth decay and gum disease. This is very beneficial because tooth decay and gum disease are two of the most major and dangerous dental issues today. Brushing helps prevent these problems because it removes the plaque from the teeth and gumline.

-Brushing helps you prevent major health issues, like stroke, heart disease, preterm labor for women, and more. This is because brushing helps prevent gum disease, and gum disease aids in the severity and even development of these health issues.

-Brushing helps you have a beautiful smile. This is because it can remove surface stains from your tooth enamel (especially if you use the right tools) and it also helps you prevent tooth loss and other dental issues that can cause an unattractive appearance.

Do you have any questions about the benefits of brushing in Royse City, Texas? If so, please contact Royse City Dental Care and talk to a member of our dental team. All you need to do is dial 972-636-2417 and we will be more than happy to help you. We look forward to your phone call!

Do you get confused and overwhelmed when using your water flosser? If so, don’t worry—Dr. Edmon R. Hutchison and our dental team are here to help you. With our tips and information, you’ll be able to use this handy and beneficial tool to clean your smile and prevent dental issues like tooth decay and gum disease.

To begin, fill the flosser’s tank with water—the temperature of the water doesn’t matter too much, but many prefer to use lukewarm water, especially if they have sensitive teeth and gums. Then, put the tank on the base and secure the lid on top. Next, choose the specific cleaning tip you would like to use to clean the crevices of your smile and then click it firmly on the top of the wand. Then, choose a comfortable pressure level for the flosser to use to clean your teeth.

When washing your smile, lean over the sink and put the tip of the tool in your mouth. To keep the water from splashing, wrap your lips around the wand. Then, turn the unit on.

The tool will begin spraying water at this point. Start by cleaning the back teeth. While doing so, hold the flosser just above the gumline at a 90-degree angle. Use this technique to clean between each tooth in your mouth. When you are done washing your smile, turn the flosser off and take the tip off the wand. You can remove the tip by pushing the eject button.

Now that you know how to use a water flosser in Royse City, Texas, your smile will be clean and healthy! However, please don’t forget to brush your teeth every morning and every night like the American Dental Association recommends. For more information and details about water flossers and how to use them, please call Royse City Dental Care at 972-636-2417. We look forward to helping you!

As you may already know, tooth decay is a serious and dangerous dental issue that could result in toothaches and even tooth loss. This is why it’s best to keep it away from your smile. However, that might be a tricky task if you’re not sure how to do so. But, it’s not as tough as it might sound. All you need to do are the following things:

Keep up on oral hygiene: One of the best ways to avoid tooth decay is by cleaning your smile twice each day. Make sure you brush your teeth every morning and night for two minutes each time. Try to scrub each tooth in your smile and brush for two minutes each time. To complete the cleaning job, make sure to floss and rinse at night before you go to bed. Doing these things will help you keep your smile in pristine condition.

Visit your dentist: It’s very important that you visit Dr. Edmon R. Hutchison every six months for a routine cleaning and checkup. This treatment will clean the harmful particles away, which will help you prevent tooth decay. The treatment will also involve a fluoride treatment, which will strengthen your tooth enamel and give it the ability to fight tooth decay-causing substances.

Consider dental sealants: Dental sealants are beneficial shells that protect your back teeth from tooth decay and other dental issues. They are wafer-thin shells that are painted onto your teeth and then hardened. They will keep the bacteria in your mouth from having direct access to your tooth enamel.

Take advantage of fluoride: Fluoride is a beneficial mineral that strengthens your teeth. This is why you need to take advantage of it as much as possible. In addition to the fluoride treatment provided at our office, you should brush with fluoride toothpaste and drink fluoridated water as much as possible.

Eat tooth-healthy foods: It’s best to have a balanced and healthy diet and avoid consuming sugary products as much as possible. Sugar can attack your smile and create tooth decay. It’s also helpful if you avoid eating acidic foods and beverages. Acid can wear away your tooth enamel, which is called enamel erosion.

If you do these things, you’ll be on the right track toward a strong and successful smile free from tooth decay. To learn more about tooth decay in Royse City, Texas, please call Royse City Dental Care at 972-636-2417 at your earliest convenience. We are more than happy to give you the information you need so you can be more successful in preventing cavities!

A dental bridge in Royse City, Texas, might seem strong and unbreakable, but that’s not always the case. There are things that can harm your bridge in more ways than one. So, it’s very important to take good care of your dental bridge, and you can do so by doing the following things:

-Brush, floss, and rinse: It’s best to keep up on oral hygiene each and every day. You will need to brush twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush, floss once a day with an easy-to-use product, and rinse once a day with antibacterial or fluoride mouthwash. Make sure each product and tool you use has been approved by the American Dental Association.

-Attend your dental checkups: Make sure to visit your dentist, Dr. Edmon R. Hutchison, every six months for your routine dental cleaning and checkup. This will help you keep plaque and bacteria away from the dental bridge. It will also give your dentist the chance to fix any problems if necessary.

Your mouth is one of the most fascinating parts of your body. Not only does it house your pearly whites and gums, your tongue and throat, but it also houses millions of bacteria! In the average adult, anywhere from 100 to 200 species of bacteria may live in your mouth. If you take good care of your teeth, you will likely have 1,000 to 100,000 bacteria on EACH tooth surface! Many of these bacteria are harmless, but some are not.

Streptococcus is a type of bacteria which lives in your mouth, and every time you eat a piece of food, or drink something, it feeds on the sugars and starches left behind. Then it reacts with the sugars and starches and creates acid. Eventually this acid turns into a sticky film—plaque—that coats your teeth and if left untreated, hardens into tartar.

Tooth decay happens in stages. As the bacterial acid breaks down your tooth enamel, it exposes the softer, sensitive dentin layer underneath. As it strips the minerals from your enamel it causes holes. The dentin, because it is soft, is even more vulnerable to acid erosion. If it is allowed to continue unchecked, it wears down the tooth’s structure until it reaches the pulp, which houses the nerves and blood vessels. Here the bacteria irritate the pulp until is swells, which means you can experience severe toothache and sensitivity, and pain when you chew. If your becomes abscessed, you will have an infection, which is the creation of a pocket of pus as your body sends white blood cells to fight the infection.

To avoid the damaging effects of plaque and the resulting cavities, there are some things you can do:

–Brush and floss at least twice a day.
–Drink water to stay well hydrated by maintaining saliva production to protect your teeth and gums.
–Eat a healthy balanced diet, avoiding excess sugars and starches.
–Visit your dentist at least once a year to remove hardened plaque.

Our dental team at Royse City Dental Care is here to help you keep cavities at bay. Call us at 972-636-2417 if you have any questions or to schedule your next appointment!

As you eat the turkey, ham, rolls, and pie covering your kitchen table, your smile is in danger, and it’s important that you do everything you can to enjoy the holiday all while maintaining the health of your smile. To help you do so, we strongly recommend doing the following things:

Drink a lot of water
If you drink a lot of water throughout the day, your smile will be constantly rinsed and the loose food particles will be washed away. Drinking water will also prevent plaque formation and will promote saliva flow, which will help you fight cavities. Water is also the healthiest drink available, so do your smile and entire body a favor and drink water throughout the day.

Limit the sticky foods
Sticky foods tend to cling to your teeth, weakening the enamel and promoting tooth decay. Your smile doesn’t need these damaging affects, so we encourage you to avoid the sticky foods altogether. However, if you do decide to consume sticky foods, like pecan pie, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce, please remember to brush and floss your teeth as well as rinse your smile with water quickly after.

Brush and floss
It’s extremely important that you brush and floss your smile throughout the day, but please remember to do so 30 minutes after you eat. Waiting will give your teeth the time they need to produce protective materials that shield them from the brushing and flossing techniques. Now, we know that you may not be at home on Thanksgiving Day, so we strongly recommend that you take a pocket-sized toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss to your Thanksgiving party destination.

Shorten your meal time
If you dedicate a specific time of the day to snacking and eating, your smile will have a better chance at fighting tooth decay this Thanksgiving. Snacking throughout the day will make your smile continually vulnerable to the acids the foods and drinks produce. So, it’s best that you spend the majority of the day visiting and playing games with family and friends rather than snacking.

Schedule a cleaning appointment
Your best chance at maintaining a healthy smile this holiday season is by scheduling a dental cleaning appointment shortly after Thanksgiving. This appointment will help you free your smile from the food particles and bacteria that live in and attack your smile. The appointment will also nourish and strengthen your teeth, preparing you for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

These five tips will help you have the best and most successful Thanksgiving holiday possible. Remember to at least swish your mouth with water every chance you get so you can save your smile from the rich, sugary, and sticky foods that enter your mouth. If you have any questions, if you would like to learn more, or if you would like to schedule a post-Thanksgiving cleaning appointment, please call our office today!
