The bacteria causing these issues can be removed through a scaling and root planing treatment. During this treatment, the bacterial biofilm and plaque from the lower surfaces of the teeth are scraped away. Daily teeth cleaning is preferable to having this treatment.

Even though the bacteria is removed, the disease isn’t. There is no way to treat periodontal disease itself once it is contracted. Further outbreaks can be prevented by the patient by practicing and doubling down on regular brushing and flossing.
