Your child’s primary teeth play a very important role in helping them chew and process food for safe swallowing. If your son or daughter is inconsistent with brushing their teeth twice each day, a cavity could start to develop.

Primary teeth are often smaller than permanent adult teeth. If an area of tooth decay compromises one of their molars, there might not be sufficient tooth enamel remaining to repair the tooth with a dental filling.

In a case like this one of our dentists, Dr. Edmon R. Hutchison, Dr. Eric J. Gabrielsen, or Dr. Lena R. Craig might recommend installing a cap or dental crown over the compromised primary tooth.

The treatment process involves removing the tooth enamel layer. This leaves behind a healthy dentin abutment capable of anchoring the dental crown in your child’s mouth. Our dentist will then make an impression of the abutment and the surrounding teeth. This is sent to a professional dental lab to guide the technicians that will create their dental crown.

You will need to return for a short follow up appointment when your child’s dental crown is ready. Our dentist will then cement it in place with a strong dental grade adhesive. This should restore the tooth’s basic function in their mouth until the tooth is naturally lost and replaced with its permanent counterpart.

If you live in Royse City, Texas, and your child has a tooth suffering from a large cavity, please call 972-636-2417 to schedule an appointment at Royse City Dental Care.

As you may know, a dental implant is a treatment designed to replace a lost tooth—but do you ever wonder if you’re a good candidate? If you have, there are a few things you should know.

Dental implants are designed to look and feel like a natural tooth. Sadly, if you’re missing a tooth you could have a hard time eating, chewing, or speaking. Fortunately, you can overcome these issues with an implant. Also, the color and look of your teeth will be taken into consideration so your implant can made to match your smile.

Another major advantage of implants is their durability. You see, most restorations will last at least five years before they need to be replaced. However, with proper care, dental implants can last for more than 25 years. In fact, many patients who decide on implants never have to replace them.

If you would like to learn more about implants, we invite you to visit us. We will gladly inspect the health of your mouth and gums to see if you’re a good candidate. If you aren’t a good candidate for implants, we’ll be happy to recommend a different restoration.

If you have more questions about dental implants, or are simply interested in scheduling an appointment with Dr. Edmon R. Hutchison, please feel free to give Royse City Dental Care a call at 972-636-2417. We’ll gladly answer any questions you may have. We look forward to hearing from you.
