Dental accidents occur occasionally. This can be frustrating. If you have a cracked or chipped tooth or a tooth with a large cavity, you have a number of options available to you. Today we will talk about once such method of treating a weakened tooth–a dental crown.

Dental crowns are quite popular because they can restore a tooth to its original size, color and shape. Dental crowns can be used for many other tasks, including:

-Anchoring a traditional dental bridge
-Restoring a broken tooth
-Improving the overall look of your smile
-Building up an extremely worn-down tooth
-Protecting a weak tooth so that it doesn’t break
-Covering a misshapen or discolored tooth to enhance its appearance
-Covering a dental implant above the gumline
-Supporting a tooth with limited tooth structure remaining due to a large filling

A custom-made dental crown makes all of these benefits possible. Crowns are made to look just like natural teeth, making it easy to enjoy a radiant smile and excellent oral health. Talk with your dentists about what crowns can do for your personalized smile treatment plan.

If you would like to learn more about the possibility of dental crowns in Royse City, Texas, and how they could benefit you, please feel free to call 972-636-2417 today and schedule an appointment with our dentist, Drs. Hutchison, Gabrielsen, and Craig.

If you have a weakened tooth that needs strengthening, a dental crown restoration might be something to speak to your dentist about. A tooth can be damaged from accidental injury and suffer a break, or it can be weakened from extensive decay, and following a root canal. Let’s take a closer look at crowns, what they are, and how they can help you:

— Crowns are custom-crafted to “cap” a damaged tooth by covering it to provide a natural-looking tooth.

— Crowns are permanently cemented into position and designed to cover the visible portion of the tooth or dental implant that lies above the gum line.

–Essentially, the crown becomes the tooth’s surface, effectively restoring the full function of the tooth.

–Crowns come in a variety of materials such as porcelain, other dental ceramic, metals, or porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns. Your dentist will evaluate your needs and offer recommendations.

–Depending on the type of material used, a dental crown can reinforce and strengthen the tooth.

–Dental crowns are made in a lab, whether on-site or off-site. There, a dental technician will use impressions taken of your teeth to design your crown. Impressions allow your bite and jaw movements to be simulated, which makes for a customized tooth replacement that best suits your mouth.

You can strengthen and reinforce a damaged tooth with the help of a dental crown restoration. If you would like a dental evaluation with our dentists, Dr. Edmon R. Hutchison, please call 972-636-2417 at Royse City Dental Care in Royse City, Texas today!

Tooth enamel is designed by nature to be strong and durable enough to handle biting, chewing and grinding hard foods. Unfortunately, there are still times when an accident or oral injury can actually break, fracture or chip a tooth. So long as the internal structures of the tooth are healthy, Dr. Edmon R. Hutchison can often repair the broken tooth by replacing the enamel layer with a crown.

This is essentially a replica tooth made from either porcelain, gold or a base metal alloy. It usually takes two separate appointments to fully install a crown.

During your first appointment Dr. Edmon R. Hutchison will use a drill to remove the tooth enamel and form an abutment. This will later serve to anchor the crown in your mouth. Dr. Edmon R. Hutchison will then make an impression of the area, which will be sent to a dental lab where your new crown is made to fit your teeth perfectly.

At the end of the first appointment, Dr. Edmon R. Hutchison will secure a temporary cap over the abutment. It’s important to keep in mind that the temporary crown is not a fully functional tooth, its primary purpose is to protect the abutment.

Our office will call you back for the second appointment after the dental lab has completed your crown. The temporary crown will be carefully removed and your new permanent crown will be cemented in place.

If you have a broken, fractured, or otherwise damaged tooth, you should not delay in calling Royse City Dental Care in Royse City, Texas at 972-636-2417 to have it treated and restored.

A large cavity on one of your teeth can severely compromise the tooth’s ability to effectively chew food. Without timely repair, it could lead to other complications and problems with your oral health. In some cases, the cavity can be so large that your Royse City Dental Care dentist simply can’t repair it with a filling.

In a situation like this, your dentist will likely recommend restoring the entire enamel layer of the badly decayed tooth by installing a crown.

At the first appointment your dentist will examine the tooth, to assess the extent of the decay and make sure the pulp and other interior structures of the tooth are healthy.

Next, they will remove the enamel layer of the tooth leaving a post-like abutment behind. The abutment is essentially the dentin, and pulp of the tooth still anchored securely in the socket.

Once this is done they will make a detailed impression of the area. This will be sent to a dental lab, that custom makes your permanent crown. Then the dentist will secure a hard plastic temporary crown over the abutment to protect it.

We will call you to schedule your second appointment once the dental lab has completed your permanent crown. During this brief appointment, the temporary crown is removed and your permanent crown is cemented in place. With proper care and cleaning it should restore your badly decayed tooth for many years to come.

If one of your teeth is suffering from a large cavity, you should call Royse City Dental Care’s office in Royse City, Texas at 972-636-2417 to explore your treatment and restoration options.
